IQ Assessments
The testing to determine eligibility for a Gifted Identification (in various school boards) is a half-day process. Standardized measures evaluate the child's overall intellectual functioning, as well as identifying areas of relative strength and weakness. A screening of the child's foundational academic skills is also included.
What is our Process?
A Review of Relevant History
- A detailed, semi-structured interview with parents and client (if appropriate) regarding current functioning and developmental history.
- A review of report cards and other relevant documentation.
Assessment of Cognitive Functioning and an Academic Screening
- Administration of a standardized intelligence measure (e.g., WISC-V or WAIS-IV)
- Administration of selected subtests from a standardized academic battery.
Presentation of Results
- After the assessment results have been thoroughly reviewed by the assessor and/or a supervising psychologist, parents and/or client (if appropriate) will participate in a comprehensive feedback consultation.
- A full written report will follow, which will include assessment-related data, suitability for gifted programming, as well as recommendations and strategies to assist with personal and academic functioning.
